The scientist applied a technique called comparative psychological research. They found that some of the strategies shaped by ev...

More dinosaur species from fossil record!! Scientists at the University of Pennsylvania have found more dinosaur species. They made a statistical analysis of an exhaustive database of all known dinosaur genera. They knew 29% of all dinosaurs. It then used this data to generate the total number of genera preserved in fossil record. Scientists will eventually discover 1844 dinosaur genera --- at least 1300 more than 527 recognised today. Longevity is not genetic Scientists at Max Planck Institute for Demographic research in Germany found that longevity is not a genetic trait. Genes may not be so important in determining how long a human being will live depending on how long his parents lived. James W. Vaupel who directs the Laboratory of Survival and Longevity states, “You really learn very little about your own life span from your parent’s life spans.” He added, “That’s what the evidence shows. Even twins, identi...

RECYCLING LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAYS (LCD) Scientists at the University of New York are playing a pivotal role in reducing the environmental hazard caused by the discarded LCD displays . LCD screens are usually composed of two glass sheets between which a thin film of liquid crystal material is deposited. The new technology will employ an efficient way to take out the viscous liquid crystal from the waste LCD displays. The liquid crystal mixture will be recycled and used into differen...

Birds in cities more stress resistant! Ornithologists at Max Planck Society in Germany have studied and found that the European blackbirds born in a city are more resistant to acute stress than their forest dwelling cousins. The reduced reactivity of the birds probably has a genetic basis which the scientists found. It could be result of urban-specific selection pressures to which birds in the cities are exposed. Blackbird in the New World, any of several species of son...

Ice Age An ice age is a period of long-term downturn in the temperature of Earth's climate, resulting in an expansion of the continental ice sheets, polar ice sheets and mountain glaciers ("glaciation"). Glaciologically - Ice age is often used to mean a period of ice sheets in the northern and southern hemispheres; by this definition we are still in an ice age (because the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets still exist). More colloquially, when speaking of the last few million ye...

Chewing gum remedy for tooth decay A chewing gum has been developed that fights tooth decay. It destroys the bad bacteria that causes it. BASF, a German chemical company, discovered a new strain of lactobacillus called L. anti-caries which binds the Streptococcus mutans. This is the bacteria responsible for tooth decay. S. mutans sticks to the teeth secreting an acid which causes tooth decay. L. anti-caries will clump with S. mutans preventing it from attaching to the tooth surfa...

Expanding Universe Expanding universe is the current understanding of the state of the universe. It states that the universe is not fixed. It is gradually expanding. It is based on the finding that all galaxies are moving away from each other. Application of general relativity to cosmology, along with the detection of red shifted light coming from galaxies outside the Milky Way Galaxy, led to the realization in the 1920s that all galaxies are receding (see Edwin Hubble). It is unkn...
