Job burn-out occurs when someone does the same job for quite a long time. It may be 2 to 3 years or more. The person gets irritated in his job and many side-effects develop. Research shows that they are prone to develop type-2 diabetes.
This study was done in Israel on 677 subjects. The study was done among male, middle-aged workers. The study shows that those affected by burn-out are twice as likely to develop that condition. When the effects of blood pressure level was eliminated, the risk was found to be four fold higher. The study was done in Psychosomatic Medicine at Tel Aviv University.
It was found that the following factors increase the risk:
1. Stress.
2. Obesity.
3. Smoking.
4. Lack of exercise.
Dr. Samule Melamed, the lead researcher, thinks that emotional burn-out may also pose a risk to health. The study was done earlier also. It shows the following:
1. Cardiovascular disease risk.
2. Musculoskeletal pain.
3. Impaired fertility.
4. Sleep disturbance.
To avoid the burn-out effects, an individual should do the following:
1. Listen to music.
2. Practice meditation.
3. Develop an absorbing hobby.
4. Always thinking of career might be too strenuous!!
5. A person doing a sedentary job should do some exercise.
6. Smoking and drinking is injurious to health, which has been found from many scientific studies. It must be stopped. A person must go for counseling, rather his family members must take him to counseling cessations so that the bad habits of smoking and drinking can be stopped. It jeopardizes the family life also.
