Generally the back office workers do their job even during festivals. We worked during the Kali Puja (a puja where Maa Kali, Goddess of Strength, with the idol portraying an angry woman with tongue protruding out with her husband, Lord Shiva under her foot and with decapitated heads made into garlands.) March 3 was celebrated in this year 2007 as Holi in India. On this day, we celebrate this day by smearing colors at each other. Holi is usually celebrated among friends and family circle. People enjoy this festival. On this festival, feasting and merrymaking takes place along with socialization. People come and meet with people, their friends, and relatives on this day.
As I work in a back office, a medical transcription company, I had to work on this day. The office gave us 7 off days instead of our scheduled 6 offs in a month. On this day, our office carried out their work with the help of specially arranged cars that picked up from specific points. The car took me from my B.T. road junction in Kolkata. I went to office quite fast within half an hour. I reached my office at 8 a.m. Actually the afternoon shift which started at 11 a.m. was changed to morning shift so that the employees can be free at 5 or 6 p.m. and enjoy the rest of the day. Even during strikes, the company offers food free of cost, and the pick and drop facility is given to the employees.
After reaching my office at 8 a.m., I started my work then gradually I worked and around 1:30 p.m., I took lunch comprising fish curry, dal, and a vegetable curry. I then resumed my work and worked till the tea break at 4 p.m. I worked till 6:30 and went out from the office.
Coming out from office, I took an auto from Gariahat and reached Rashbehari, I took the metro rail and reached my home within 40 minutes. I reached my home around 7:30 p.m. On reaching my locality, I bought a magazine written in Bengali, my mother tongue, called “Anandamela.” It has a collection of 8 thrilling ghost stories!! I like ghost stories so I bought them!! I then went to my home and took my tiffin and then finally I sat reading the stories. It was fascinating. Then I took dinner around 9:30 and sat in the internet. I love talking with people around the world. So I log in ORKUT every night!! It is a wonderful website where you can create network, make fans of your favorite friends, and chat whenever they are online!! It is quite fun to talk with people of various cultures and from different countries.
I call my medical transcription service during the holi festival as great as people living far off lands like America can get my service. The reports will be used in their medical documentation which they will use during the claim of their insurance. Think of the sick and disabled people getting help, if someone does not go, then who will provide service to those people.
